Phonics Fundamentals©
Expectations: Participants will be able to implement their increased knowledge of the English language using multisensory techniques in classroom and small group settings. Tutors will be able to develop organized, sequential lesson plans for use during tutoring sessions.
Materials: You will receive Phonics Fundamentals Books 1-4, Phonics Fundamentals Reference Notebook, Phonological Awareness Interactive Auditory Exercises Manual. Credit: 2.9 SB-CEU available. Please contact the SLD location nearest you for additional information. This 32-hour course includes an overview of language-based learning disabilities, brain research and processes related to language development; and the Orton-Gillingham approach to successfully teaching reading, writing and spelling. Lecture, lesson demonstrations and hands-on practice include phonological awareness activities, multisensory techniques, structured language patterns and rules based on the English Language and the Orton-Gillingham approach. This class is open to reading specialists,RTi, Title I, general and special education teachers, prospective tutors for SLD's paid and volunteer programs, home-schooling parents, and individuals interested in Orton-Gillingham techniques. Cost Including Material: $745.00 $220.00 for paid tutors. (Fee discount available for prospective SLD tutors). Free to volunteer SLD tutors!
